About Me

First off, who's asking?

Okay, so you're curious about this guy Dennis. So what do you want to know?

Professionally: I' retired from the telecommunications industry after more than forty-seven years. It's was a wild ride. Now it's time for Life 2.0. Like most folks, I started out in an entry level position and worked my way into management. When I was a young whipper snapper of 20, I was working at K-mart. I was going places (laugh!). Seriously. I was working in Sporting Goods, then sort of a separately run division of K-mart. And they liked me. They liked me a lot. During the slow times, I studied the products, and I could answer the most daunting questions a customer could throw at me. And I wasn't just your average clerk either. My boss soon learned that I could create some mean looking displays, and sell just about anything, even if it hadn't been selling earlier. Yeah, those guys had me tagged. They were going to send me to their management school, and ultimately assign me to take over in Barstow. Barstow?! Yikes!

Fortunately, a friend of my dad's called me one day. He called me right at K-mart while I was working. Told me they had a job opening where he worked. It was what would become part of the big telecom industry. He knew that all of my schooling and background was electronics oriented, and they needed someone strong in that area. The company he was with didn't have a particularly good reputation around town back then. So I was a bit hesitant. He convinced me though. He told me to come by the office for an interview. They'd interview me and I'd interview them. If they liked what they saw, and if I liked what I saw, we'd talk business.

As they say, the rest is history. Here I am, now retired after forty-seven years in the business....

Personally: formerly married and have kids and step-kids, grand kids and great grand kids too. Aren't they great?

I'm seriously addicted to wakeboarding, and pretty pissed that the sport came along ten or fifteen years later than it did. I'd be a whole heckuva lot better at it if it had come along sooner! Whatever. I'm going to be the Banana George of wakeboarding. Still doing it in my 90's. You wait and see!

Also into technical stuff...always enjoy playing with new gadgets and figuring out how they work.

And then there's cooking. I don't know that I'm great at it, but I can hold my own. I got interested in cooking a few years ago after remodeling my kitchen. I started watching shows on The Food Network, and the next thing you know, I was trying what they were doing. And it was easy! Now, there is no dish that scares me off. No presentation that is too challenging. So step aside! I'm going to take over your kitchen, and I won't let you in mine!

For more about me, holler.
